Hair braiding has a long history, going back no less than 5000 years. It has been a major some portion of many societies all around the globe including Asia, Africa, the Americas, Egypt and even Europe. For example, in Africa hair plaiting can be followed back similarly as 3500 B.C. There it was a social event among women.
